Geology museum
Complete exhibition design for Guyana's geological collection: route, five showcase types, panels and tables.
Exhibition design project, 2019–2021, Georgetown (Guyana).
An existing 55.7 m² room is organised with a ring route around a central island of cases, so visitors move through the collection without backtracking and with every face in view. The collection is classified into five showcase types — wall, table, freestanding and stepped — each with its own support, lighting and backing system, built in repeatable modules to control cost and installation.
Seven information panels order the reading: introduction to the museum, Guyana's geological context, the history of the collection and case-by-case labels. The package includes a general plan with case numbering, axonometrics, fabrication details and visualisations of the room.
Joint work of t1x1's two offices: Bogotá and Johannesburg.

Narrative · installation · experience
The project, chapter by chapter.
The display case turns the mineral collection into a system of observation.
01
One collection, one room
The location map places the case in Georgetown and the perspective introduces the mineral room. Cases on both sides of the passage organise close observation within an existing enclosure.
02
Five showcase families
Five case families address different positions and supports. Details show minerals on adjustable elements and pieces on stepped tables, connecting exhibition furniture with ways of observing the collection.
03
The route around the island
The central island leaves a route around it and concentrates several display faces. The plan follows this relationship between furniture and void, while the axonometric reveals height differences.
04
Minerals and narratives
Seven information panels add narrative to mineral observation. Their placement relates to the cases, distinguishing the support that holds an object from the surface that explains its context.
05
The collection up close
Close views show minerals, historical pieces and consultation tables together. Freestanding cases introduce individual objects within the repeated system while retaining an overall reading of the exhibition room.
