Memorial to violence, Medellín 1984–1994
Competition entry for the site of a building that symbolised violence in Medellín: a park of regeneration born from a painting.
The project starts from a 1957 painting that belonged to the collection kept in the building and turns a site of violence into a space of regeneration. An undulating canopy, carried on bundles of slender poles, stretches over ground that folds into terraces, paths and a water plaza; beneath the palms, a glass pavilion holds the memory.
