Native North Americans: traditions and transitions

Museo del Oro, Bogotá · 2012–2013

the exhibition

Freestanding glass cases in warm-toned rooms for collection objects.

Built exhibition, 2012–2013.

Freestanding glass cases, tall and table-height, order the route through a sequence of terracotta-toned rooms on two levels of the museum. Light is concentrated inside the cases so the object is the main source of brightness; the isometric shows the furniture exploded over the existing plan.

Diverse objects are organised through viewing distances and display supports.

01

The object and its showcase

Table cases and tall cases call for different approaches. The first invites a downward gaze; the second presents objects upright, introducing variety within the same exhibition route.

Looking closely

Railings and varied case formats reveal the mediation between object and visitor. Textiles form extended surfaces, while other objects gather within smaller supports and more concentrated viewing areas.

Graphics introduce the collection

Entrance graphics provide an initial orientation before visitors encounter the objects. The title wall acts as an introductory surface and makes the beginning of the exhibition sequence recognisable.
