the drawing becomes the object.
t1x1 is the scale where nothing is represented. We work toward that moment with the same rigour whether the subject is a chair or a city.
the first line
Everything starts with a line on tracing paper. It is numbered 001: the origin of the record. Every line after it can be traced back to this one.
the drawing
A tubular-steel armchair (1925) is traced on a single sheet at 1:5. Elevation, plan and model are projections of the same object. Each next stage is traced on a new sheet, laid over the last.
the scale closes the distance
1:5, 1:4, 1:2 … the scale is the ratio between drawing and object. Every step brings them closer.
at 1:1, the drawing is the object
At 1:1 the elevation measures what the chair measures. It turns and becomes volume: 78 × 70 × 72 cm. The drawing no longer represents; it coincides.
one to one
The chair occupies a module of 1.00 × 1.00 m. The same module, repeated, measures a room, a house, a block, a city.
t is for traceability
The t is the initial of traceability, and of trazabilidad in Spanish: the same letter in both languages. Traceability is being able to follow every line back to its origin.
four modules, one word
t · 1 · x · 1: each character in its module, with its axis and its dimension. The t is the method; 1x1, the scale.
the trace
Seven sheets, none erased. From the word, every line can be followed back to its origin: the t to line 001, the 1x1 to the chair at 1:1. That is traceability, and that record is our source code.
t1x1
To trace, one to one. The layers close over the word and its lines tighten until they become mass: the drawing becomes the object.
to trace, one to one.
t1x1 is not a name chosen for its sound. It is a method written in four characters, and the record of how we apply it.
The t is the initial of traceability and of trazabilidad: the same letter in both languages we work in. Traceability is the ability to identify the origin and every stage of a process; at t1x1 it applies to every line — where it comes from, which decision holds it, what it builds.
Scale 1:1: the point at which the drawing stops representing and coincides with what is built. And a module of 1.00 × 1.00 m, the common measure that lets a chair, a house and a city be drawn with the same rigour. Every project, from idea to site, in the same hands.
In Spanish, traza means both the design of a work and the mark something leaves behind. To design with traceability is to join the two: deciding the form and leaving a record of every decision, so that any line can be followed back to its origin. The easier it becomes to produce, the more that matters.
In software, source code is the readable text from which everything else is generated: programs are recompiled; the source is kept and reviewed. In a project, the record of the trace does that job — every line with its origin, its reason and its measure. Drawings, models, renders and the building itself are compilations of that source; the tools, from the drawing board to CAD and information models, are the compilers, and they will keep changing. That is why t1x1 is defined by its source and not by its tools: a trace written with rigour stays legible when the instruments change, and someone always answers for it.
the record of the trace is our source code · the tool changes, the source remains
architecture, data and software, in one team.
Founded in Bogotá in 2013, t1x1 designs at every scale — territory, buildings, houses, interiors and objects — and builds the software those projects need: applications made to measure for each need, with every result traceable to its source.
Residential and commercial projects from concept to completion, exhibition design and installation, heritage interventions and urban intelligence. Every project in this portfolio is designed, developed and carried to site by t1x1.

specialist partners, one standard.
t1x1 leads design and coordination, and works with specialist partners at each stage of the project — engineering, management and construction, museography — on a single coordination model.
